Page County opened defense of their Shenandoah District title by welcoming the Lady Bison of Buffalo Gap to Panther Park on Tuesday afternoon. To say the conditions were less than ideal would be an understatement and then some!
The Lady Panthers broke open a close game with a big fifth inning to claim the victory but it was the diehard fans from both squads that earned a tip of the cap today.
FRONT ROYAL- On the night before the Shenandoah District opener against Buffalo Gap, Page County needed 10 innings to defeat Class AA Warren County 4-2. The NVD was there and included with the gamer is three photos from the action.
Pete Vandenbout was on the mound for the opening game at West Virginia Tech last season after following Skipper Lawrence Nesselrodt to Montgomery. Vandenbout spent the summer of 2008 pitching for Ness at Waynesboro and was impressed enough to commit his senior season to the Golden Bears in the hills of West Virginia.
When Pete took the mound for the opener last season he became the first pitcher to throw in the Ness regime at WVT and with the signing he becomes the initial player for Ness at WVT to sign a professional contract. Congrats to both Pete & Ness!
